Vila Real
Vila Real, is a city capital of the district of the hills and high Douro. To that today they call the town, the must be found in the medieval, at the command of D. Dinis, like a small and simple medieval town surrounded by walls.
Nowadays, it is still visible the aspect of the old medieval village, totally restored, from the architectural point of view, Vila Real is still considered a medieval city, with several emblematic monuments, both in the center and its surroundings.
From a tourist point of view, Vila Real is still a growing city, because the Tourism that visits it is either a national resident, or is moved by the sense of discovery. Vila Real, as a city with great accessibility and its proximity to the Douro, is very badly taken advantag from the tourist-cultural point of view, since the greatest massification of tourism is concentrated in the Douro region, due to the lack of investment that attracts more visitors to the medieval city.
Camara Municipal of Vila Realm promoted, an interactive tourism shop which promotes guided tours of the city following a route that starts at Avenida Carvalho Araujo, with several emblematic monuments such as the house of the former marquises of Vila Real, the central pillory, S. Domingos ancient convent, the Diogo Cão house, among others, passes through Vila Velha, where the city was born, and where it is possible to see remains of walls and two medieval chapels, the most emblematic of which has the body of a faithful squire of D.Afonso Henriques, first king of Portugal, buried, follows the route until finishing next to the New chapel as the people from Vila Real calls.
