Panoias
Panoias is a sanctuary local of cult to the Egyptian god Serápis, built during the transition from the second century to the third century by a senator from Rome called Caius Calpurnius Rufinus.
In this space, there are 3 stones with several cavities in many sizes, in which rituals of initiation were practiced, where sacrifices were offered to the gods of hell, namely the god Serápis.
These rituals had a very rigid order to respect:
death of the victims
Sacrifice of His Blood
The carbonization of bodies
The consumption of their meat
Revelation of the name of the highest authority of the hells
Purification
Remajns today, with the effect of the erosion of time, the different cavities that were destined to the burning of guts, there is also a round cavity to roast the meats, and another one where the blood was purified the fat and the olive oil
Other existing cavities were entirely connected with small existing temples of the time which were intended to hold sacred tools of worship.
Panoias was considerated a monument, and was the object of several studies from the eighteenth century until our days by the whole world,, based on the studies done to the monument, it can be said that in this place was practiced hardly one single ritual of initiation.
