The House of Marquises from Vila Real
Built in the XVI century, the house of Marquises of Vila Real has two floors, which in the main exhibit four windows, the middle of which are influenced by the Manueline style, At the top of this building façade there are openings in the parapets that are designated ‘’ House of the Towers ‘
With the conspiracy to D. Joao IV in 1641, the noble family, since the baby to the oldest member had been declared guilty, and decapitated in public square.
According to the academics this family could have been punished unjustly, because of the rivalry with the house of Bragança, who could perfectly have blamed the house of Vila Real for better relations in court.
Following the death of this family, the house of Vila Real was left to the disuse and without successors. This remains preserved at Avenida Carvalho de Araújo, in the city of Vila Real, where it became a national monument.
