house of the navigator Diogo Cão

House located in the center of Vila Real city, more specifically in the avenida Carvalho Araújo, next to the city council. The monument was relatively close to the old village, where the city was born in the time of King D. Dinis.
The house of Diogo Cão is a house with a typical aspect of medieval architecture.
According to the tradition by the Vila Real people, Diogo Cão who discovered the mouth of Zaire in the 15th century was born here.
However, as was previously written, this is only a tradition by the Vila Real people which has lasted through the centuries.
The only documented information, which leads to believe that the navigator was born in that house, is an old document that tells that would have lived there a family with the nickname ''cão ‘’.
